The Chess Club is made up of students from third to eighth grade that already know how to play. They meet together every other week to play socially. They teach each other strategies and discuss ways to become better chess players. This year they hope to develop a tournament to play students from another school and take a field trip to the Chess Hall of Fame.
Some chess members talk to the second graders to encourage them to join the chess class to learn to play the game. Members also volunteer to help teach the game to the chess class.
The chess class is open to students in grades two through eight that want to learn to play chess. We meet weekly after school and follow the First Move program. Chess Club members come and provide additional help to the teacher for students to learn the game of chess.
