Subject: Visual Art

Goals:

  1. Students will recognize, identify, and utilize the elements of art:  line, shape, color, texture, and form.
  2. Students will recognize, identify, and apply the principles of design:  balance, contrast, emphasis, rhythm, and unity.
  3. Students will create art in two and three dimensions using a variety of media, techniques, and processes.
  4. Students will demonstrate proper use, care, and storage of tools, materials, and equipment.
  5. Student will create projects based on the artistic traditions of various artists, cultures and time periods.
  6. Students will apply appropriate art terminology in viewing, responding to and evaluating artworks.
  7. Students will value what has been created by self and others and understand the value of differences in individual expression.
  8. Students will relate the visual arts to other subject areas of the curriculum.

Subject:  Computer Education

Goals:

  1. Students will practice keyboard skills.
  2. Students will compose using word processor and presentation software.
  3. Students will create spreadsheet and chart using appropriate software.
  4. Students will troubleshoot malfunctioning computer and printer.
  5. Students will use on-line resources for gathering information.
  6. Students will discuss common use of technology in daily life and responsible use.
  7. Students will evaluate the accuracy of online resources.
  8. Students will set up folders in My Documents.

Subject:          Reading

Goals:

  1. Students will read and interpret a variety of novels as a class
  2. Students will read independently
  3. Students will interpret individual novels through book reviews
  4. Students will respond personally to novels
  5. Students will gain an appreciation for reading, and they will share their appreciation with the class

Subject:          Language Arts (English) – Honors

Goals:

  1. Students will compose original stories, poetry, and essays.
  2. Students will compose writings of a variety of genre.
  3. Students will use the writing process to construct published pieces.
  4. Students will demonstrate the 6+1 traits in their original pieces.
  5. Students will demonstrate their understanding of proper mechanics by proofreading their own writing and becoming a peer editor.
  6. Students will use revision skills to enhance grammar and vocabulary, as well as to elaborate sentence structure.
  7. Students will demonstrate their understanding of grammar by diagramming sentences.
  8. Students will practice word analogies.
  9. Students will demonstrate vocabulary development by applying new vocabulary in their speaking and writing.
  10. Students will generate and edit original writing on the Ryanswriters wiki

  1. Students will develop and build upon math concepts of whole numbers, decimals, fractions, geometry, measurement and percent.
  2. Students will build upon basic skills in operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to enhance computation skills.
  3. Students will be introduced to algebraic thinking.
  4. Students will be able to use problem solving skills through real life applications.

  1. The student will operate with whole numbers.
  2. The student will operate with fractions.
  3. The student will operate with decimals.
  4. The student will apply basic concepts of geometry.
  5. The student will apply basic concepts of algebra.
  6. The student will gather statistics, report them, and interpret reports of statistics.
  7. The student will apply knowledge in real-world and word problems.

Subject: Music

Goals:

  1. Student will understand concept of tonality.
  2. Student will be introduced to concept of harmony .
  3. Student will improve proficiency in playing pitched and unpitched percussion.
  4. Student will learn relationship between music and history, and music and other arts.
  5. Student will study evolution of American Popular Music from 1950’s-present.
  6. Student will learn Service Music and Hymns for Liturgies.

Subject:  Physical Education

Goals:

  1. The students will develop a positive respect for self and others.
  2. The students will demonstrate good sportsmanship and cooperation.
  3. The students will apply knowledge of skills and strategies to individual and team activities.
  4. The students will recognize the benefits of overall body physical fitness
  5. The students will determine cause and effect relationships between health behaviors and disease and/or illness.

Subject:  Religion

Goals:

  1. The student will find a given passage in the Bible.
  2. The student will identify the major books of the Old Testament and correlate them to their content.
  3. The student will know the primary stories of Old Testament history.
  4. The student will relate Old Testament stories to Catholic doctrine.
  5. The student will engage Old Testament stories through personal reflection.
  6. Students will gain appreciation for the value of the Old Testament.
  7. The students will read God’s Word.
  8. Students will learn the stories of their Jewish ancestors.
  9. The students will understand the role of the prophets.
  10. The students will deepen their understanding of Jesus.
  11. The students will participate in prayer.
  12. The students will participate in the Sacrament of Reconciliation, the Eucharist, and prayer services.

Subject:  Social Studies

Goals:

  1. The student will be familiar with major cultures of world history.
  2. The student will know major events of world history.
  3. The student will identify contributions of important historical figures.
  4. The student will locate on a map locations significant in world history.
  5. The student will research and report on items of interest in world history.
