Subject: Visual Art

Goals:

  1. Students will recognize, identify, and utilize the elements of art:  line, shape, color, texture, and form.
  2. Students will recognize, identify, and apply the principles of design:  balance, contrast, emphasis, rhythm, and unity.
  3. Students will create art in two and three dimensions using a variety of media, techniques, and processes.
  4. Students will demonstrate proper use, care, and storage of tools, materials, and equipment.
  5. Student will create projects based on the artistic traditions of various artists, cultures and time periods.
  6. Students will apply appropriate art terminology in viewing, responding to and evaluating artworks.
  7. Students will value what has been created by self and others and understand the value of differences in individual expression.
  8. Students will relate the visual arts to other subject areas of the curriculum.

Subject:  Computer Education

Goals:

  1. Students will practice keyboard skills.
  2. Students will navigate parts of system using the desktop.
  3. Students will compose using word processor and presentation software.
  4. Students will create spreadsheet and chart using appropriate software.
  5. Students will understand appropriate use of equipment and computer lab.
  6. Students will use on-line resources for gathering information.
  7. Students will discuss common use of technology in daily life and responsible use of it.

Subject:    English

Goals:

  1. The students will identify and correctly use the parts of speech.
  2. The students will use The Five Step Writing Process.
  3. The students will demonstrate ability to use learned skills in paragraph writing.
  4. The students will study weekly spelling lists and apply to their writing.
  5. The students will study forms of poetry and create original works.

Subject: Math

Goals:

  1. The students will read and write numbers from the thousandths to the billions.
  2. The students will add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers, fractions and decimals.
  3. The students will estimate using whole numbers, fractions and decimals.
  4. The students will use critical thinking in solving word problems.
  5. The students will be introduced to geometric concepts.

Subject:  Math-A

Goals:

  1. Students will read and write numbers from thousandths to billions.
  2. Students will add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
  3. Students will estimate using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
  4. Students will use critical thinking in solving word problems using mental math, reasoning and logic.
  5. Students will be introduced to geometry vocabulary, identification, constructions, formulas and spacial relationships.

Subject: Music

Goals:

  1. Student will play recorder and sing from treble clef notation.
  2. Student will expand rhythm reading to include combinations of eighth and sixteenth notes.
  3. Students will learn 6/8 and 5/4 meters.
  4. Student will study rondo and theme and variation forms.
  5. Students will learn about major and minor scales.
  6. Students will prepare Service Music and Hymns for Liturgies.

Subject:  Physical Education

Goals:

  1. The students will develop a positive respect for self and others.
  2. The students will demonstrate good sportsmanship and cooperation.
  3. The students will integrate a competence in movement incorporating eye-hand and eye-foot coordination.
  4. The students will increase muscular strength, endurance, and flexibility.
  5. The students will recognize the benefits of overall body physical fitness
  6. The students will determine cause and effect relationships between health behaviors and disease and/or illness.

Subject:  Reading

Goals:

  1. Students will demonstrate comprehension of written material.
  2. Students will demonstrate and develop skills necessary to read critically and effectively.
  3. Students will recognize and use an expanded vocabulary.
  4. Students will exhibit the ability to read independently.
  5. Students will increase comprehension through listening skills.
  6. Students will use reference materials effectively.

Subject:  Religion

Goals:

  1. Students will understand the teachings of the Catholic Church.
  2. Students will familiarize themselves with Scripture and the use of the Bible.
  3. Students will study, plan, and participate in various forms of prayers and worship.
  4. Students will serve the community.
  5. Students will develop their Christian morality.

Subject: Science

Goals:

  1. The students will use the Scientific Method in a variety of genre.
  2. The students will be able to describe the common characteristics of plants, compare plants to other organisms and describe the parts and functions of plants.
  3. The students will compare and contrast weather and climate patterns and conditions.
  4. The students will identify properties of matter and analyze the energy of sound and light.
  5. The students will understand the functions of the blood, breathing and food systems of the body.

Subject:  Social Studies

Goals:

  1. Students will develop map and globe skills.
  2. Students will understand the diversity of people in the U.S.
  3. Students will analyze the study of history.
  4. Students will explore the first peoples of America.
  5. Students will explain the age of exploration.
  6. Students will study the early colonization of America.
  7. Students will study the struggles to gain independence.
  8. Students will analyze the causes/effects of the Civil War.
  9. Students will be able to complete an outline as a study skill.
